My grandfather taught me the names of all the trees in our woods in West Knox County. The husband owner of my nail salon used to work with my younger cousin, whom I don't really know. (No bad blood, we're just not a super close family without my grandparents.) This guy and my cousin traveled a lot for their job, and the guy said, "You know, wherever we went, Nathan knew the names of the trees!"
I also have lots of those trees in the novel I'm revising!
